Different Types of Wood Computer Desks

A lot of people don't put a lot of thought into wood computer desks. They figure they just need a nice place to sit down and get work done. If that's you, then maybe you should think about all the cool options that are out there. You can really turn the desk into something more than a workstation. It can be a piece of the furniture that really accentuates the rest of the room. Of course, if you're looking into different desk options for an office, most of this won't be a concern to you. However, it's still pretty helpful to know what your options are.

The classic roll top types are still a fan favorite because they're so excellent at covering up a disorganized mess as well as keeping important files secure. However, you can get locks on just about any model so don't let that be the main selling point for you. The next most popular model is the classic L shaped type. These are perfect for fitting into any corner, and they're also great as a two person type. You can have a computer on one part and a printer on the other, or whatever you want to do with it. Some people will actually put a hutch or credenza on one half and not the other. It's really up to you. There is also a U shaped model available, though they're much less common.

If you're setting up a home office, then it's going to be a really important decision for you. You want to make sure that you have a nice ergonomic chair; otherwise you'll end up hurting yourself or falling asleep. This can't be stressed enough, as you won't get much work done and you'll end up wasting time and money. So be sure to put a lot of thought into it and don't take it lightly.

As for colors, you can take your pick. You can paint it white, or just leave it the way you get it. You might like a dark cherry, or you might want to paint it another matching color. Either way, just make sure it doesn't stick out in the room. Otherwise you won't get much work done there. And keep in mind that the contemporary thing to do is add an armoire next to the unit. It adds a really nice balance and allows you even more storage. If they're matching or connected, that's even better.

The Different Types of Computer Desks

There was a time when the home computer was relegated to a hastily put together extra room or cramped, inefficient home office. They rested on old, clunky desks that were not designed for computer use. Now, computers are busting out of the home office. Computers have become one of the centerpieces of both work and entertainment. People have their computers in living rooms, bedrooms, expansive home offices, or almost anywhere imaginable. To keep up with the demand of new computers, computer desks are now available in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles to fit all needs and tastes.

Computer Desk Styles

Corner Computer Desks

Space is a major concern for many people. Corner computer desks are designed for the efficient use of space when only a corner is available. These desks feature tapered sides and sometimes have an almost triangular shape to fit snugly into the corner of a room, while still providing high-functioning, ergonomic design. They are designed for maximum efficiency with a dedicated pull out shelf for a keyboard and mouse, a shelf for computer monitors, space for external speakers, and shelving for computer towers and printers.

Computer Armoires

An armoire is an ideal computer desk for a multi-use room. They feature plenty of space to store your computer and all accessories such as printers, speakers or a webcam. They are designed for maximum usability with features such as a slide out shelf for a keyboard and mouse, a raised platform for a computer monitor and space for easy access to a tower. Computer armoires feature doors that can be shut over the computer to provide a clean, decorative look when the machine is not in use.

Executive Desks

Such desks are perfect if you have a home office designed to impress. They large with plenty of surface space making it both functional as a work space and dominant as a piece of interior design. They are usually designed in traditional styles, but with modern features such as grommet holes for cord management and slide out drawers for keyboards.

Computer Desks with Hutches

Many computer desks are sold with optional hutches. These hutches provide additional space and shelving for file management and storage of other office tools such as fax machines, printers or scanners. Hutches are ideal for spaces that do not already feature enough storage and for spaces that could use additional organization. Get more helpful tips for creating the perfect workspace in your home.
